FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Here are some frequently asked questions about Aqua Sermo and its capabilities. I hope these are useful, but if your questions are not answered here then please contact us using our contact form available.

How does Aqua Sermo operate?

You can run the software form a laptop or desktop computer, you do not need bulky and expensive rack mount servers.

Do I need loads of expensive cables running to individual modules?

No, unlike similar systems, Aqua Sermo is a digital system, the system does not use bulky scsi connectors to transmit analogue signals, it uses a single USB Cable plus there are other methods of control available.

Does each module need to be programmed?

No, the system detects how many control boards are on a string and adjusts the software automatically.

Is the water pressurised?

Yes, this gives a better and sharper resolution than gravity fed systems. The back pressure can be adjusted very easily to the desired pressure.

Are the valves reliable?

Yes very – all of the valves are stainless steel, other systems sometimes use plastic valves which can give a quieter effect, but are more prone to sticking open.

Can you make it simulate rain?

Yes, this one is very easy, we can digitally vary the amount of rain and the droplet size! For example if you want a light rain or a heavy rain, it is also possible to have different levels of rain in different sections of the system.

Does the system drip?

No! –the system is very robust and built by Norgren – one of the world’s best fluid control companies.

How easy is it to change a faulty valve?

It will take about 1 minute with basic tools.

Does the system have a header tank?

No, not as such, but the system is built around a water manifold.

Is the system pump fed?

Yes, the system is fed from a regular water pump. Obviously the more modules you have the more powerful the pump has to be. Also the higher you have the system also determines how much pump power you need.

Does the water recirculate?

In a typical system yes, it is a recirculating system.

Can I add dyes to the system?

Yes, the system can handle dyes, but valve life may be reduced as a result.

Can I project onto the system?

Yes, the system has a setting called all on, it open all of the valves to produce a wall of water that can be projected on with either video or lasers.

Can I attach the systems to the water main?

Yes, this is possible.

How are the images and patterns best viewed?

The system works best when the area behind the system is either dark or draped with dark material. LED lighting can be used at the top and bottom to illuminate the system, however we highly recommend simple and conventional lighting – such as par cans. Strobes can be used to “Freeze” Images and UV lamps can be used if the water has had fluorescent dyes added.

Isn’t the Aqua Sermo much more noisy than other systems?

No, we have packaged the “Touring” system in such a way as to soundproof the unit as much as possible. It is true that the valves are noisier than other valves, but they are made from stainless steel for greater life and reliability. For installations where clicking valves is not an issue, we carry the standard system for our customers as well.

What is the difference between the standard and touring models?

The standard model is direct from Norgren with no modifications. The touring model has been ruggedized to make sure it can handle the demands of the entertainment industry – this ruggedisation also includes acoustic soundproofing to quieten the clicking sounds the valves make.

Where is Aqua Sermo made?

Aqua Sermo is made in England by Norgren.
