LOW FOG, SMOKE & HAZE EFFECTS

Smoke and haze can be produced in various ways and in various intensities. From the smallest wisp of smoke for models and props to fogging out forests for films we have the expertise and equipment to help.

If you are on site with no power we have petrol powered smoke machines and machines that operate on battery or butane cylinders are available.

For general use indoors we have a wide variety of machines available including machines that can continuously supply fog with no reheat cycle.

Low smoke is our specialty, we use machines that chill smoke using carbon dioxide, nitrogen and electronic refrigeration, so whatever the application, we will have be able to advise you what system is best for you.

Dry ice machines are also available, dry ice can give a superior walking on clouds effect, but it is plagued with problems including storage, handling and vast power requirements not to mention the condensation that can occur on stage. It is because of these problems that most clients prefer to use the more modern and trouble free low smoke machines.

Hazing is an important part of any modern lighting display. Cracked oil machines generally give the best and most even haze but there are some concerns that the oil could potentially cause problems for people with respiratory conditions, other methods of hazing include glycol hazer’s which generally give a good covering but the haze does not last as long or travel as far a cracked oil.

The third method of hazing is using glycerine based machines, Glycerine travels further and lasts longer than glycol, but does not disperse as well as cracked oil, glycerine haze tends to look more like light smoke and you can see it swirling. Cracked oil and glycerine will leave a residue on equipment and surfaces if used for prolonged periods of time, glycerine residue is notably less than oil, but it is terribly sticky.

Residue from glycol is not a major problem and generally is easier to clean off than oil and glycerine.
